This class, presented by CHFA Senior Attorney Carime Lee, examines historical and contemporary real estate practices that have negatively affected racial minorities in the United States.
We will review the history of real estate ownership and housing in the United States as shaped by the legacy of slavery and segregation, including subsequent discriminatory practices such as deed restrictions, redlining, practices such as deed restrictions, redlining, predatory lending, and steering.
You will hear about the impact of these practices on intergenerational wealth as well as social outcomes in public health, education, policing, and political power. Attend to hear how communities around the country are attempting to change the trajectory of these historical precedents.
