CHFA’s mission in action – the 2009 CHFA J. David Barba Golf Tournament – was an exciting and successful event once again!
This year’s tournament, held Tuesday, July 28th, at Fossil Trace Golf Club in Golden, CO, raised a net profit of $114,000 to support the Porter-Billups Leadership Academy. The annual golf tournament is a fundraiser to directly benefit like-minded community partners and Coloradans. In 2008, the event raised a net profit of $113,000 to support Warren Village. Past recipients have included Energy Outreach Colorado, Urban Peak Colorado, Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, Food Bank of the Rockies, and Senior Housing Options.
Porter-Billups Leadership Academy, a nonprofit organization that creates stability in low income families through education, is a non-sports institute managed through a partnership of Lonnie Porter, Regis University’s men’s basketball coach, and Chauncey Billups of the Denver Nuggets. Its program allows students to become leaders among their peers, experience education as a path to success, and attend college. Participants begin at the Academy in elementary school and when they reach college age, they are eligible for a Porter-Billups Academy Scholarship to attend Regis University. This scholarship will fund the balance of their tuition and books not covered by grants and other scholarships. To learn more visit www.porter-billups.org
CHFA would like to extend a special thank the event sponsors, staff, and volunteers who helped support and make this day a success!
