housing for katrina victims

Attention: People impacted by the hurricane that hit the Gulf states are making their way into Colorado, and there is a coordinated effort being undertaken to help find housing and services for the victims.

Colorado Housing Search is a website sponsored jointly by CHFA, the state’s Division of Housing, USDA Rural Development, and the City of Denver, to provide information on available affordable housing statewide. The service is free for both housing providers and housing seekers. Anyone with available housing units should take advantage of this opportunity to link units with people in need of housing, particularly now as evacuees come to our state for help.

To list your property on this website, go to Colorado Housing Search. Click on “list your property” and proceed from there.  Or you may call 1.877.428.8844 to list your property through the call center.  If you are willing to offer reduced rents to hurricane refugees, please note it in your listing.

If you have free housing units available, please list them at Hurricane Katrina Housing.  Please note, this site is only available for free units and the site is only searchable by service agencies working with hurricane survivors.  In order to list your unit, you will need the sign in and password available when you register at Colorado Housing Search.

If you are the owner of a Tax Credit property, you may be able to house evacuees also. To read what the IRS has released and CHFA's policy please read this announcement.

CHFA has decided to make 50 vacant units available (half of all vacancies) from our RAP portfolio for family victims for a period of nine months.  These units will be furnished by CHFA and we will provide a monthly stipend to the families depending upon family size.  Our Asset Management staff is in contact with the appropriate federal and state officials to determine how we make these units available quickly and efficiently.
