chfa announces partnership with esusu to help chfa-supported tenants build and improve credit
(DENVER)– Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) is pleased to announce a partnership with Esusu, Inc.—a leading financial technology company leveraging positive rent reporting for credit building—to sponsor rent reporting services for tenants living in CHFA-supported properties. This new partnership builds on the success of the Rent Reporting for Credit Pilot Program administered by CHFA between 2021-2024. The initial pilot program was authorized via legislation, HB21-1134, sponsored by Representative Naquetta Ricks, Representative Mary Bradfield, and Senator Jeff Bridges.
“Building and improving credit can empower a household’s opportunities for housing stability and economic prosperity,” said Thomas Bryan, CEO and Executive Director of CHFA. “We are glad to build off the Rent Reporting for Credit Pilot Program by partnering with Esusu to expand our work to address credit invisibility for Coloradans, advancing their opportunities for homeownership and strong financial futures.
“I am glad to have sponsored legislation that laid the foundation for this important work, and I’m excited to see CHFA expanding access to this powerful tool to help Colorado renters create financial pathways for the future,” said Representative Naquetta Ricks.
“I am proud of the success of Colorado’s Rent Reporting for Credit Pilot Program, and thrilled that CHFA will be building on these promising results to help more Coloradans establish and build credit,” said Representative Mary Bradfield.
Rent payments are not traditionally considered in credit scoring, though rent is often a household’s largest and most consistent payment each month. Esusu’s rent reporting service works with property management platforms to track and automatically report positive rent payments to the three major credit bureaus. CHFA will sponsor the Rent Reporting Program for up to 20,000 low- and moderate-income households living across the state who are renting in a multifamily property that has received financial investment from CHFA. Esusu's customers cover over five million rental units across all 50 states. Esusu recently collaborated with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to provide its rent reporting platform to properties financed by each entity. On average, Esusu renters see a 45 point increase in their credit scores through their services and have gone on to unlock over $50 billion in new credit tradelines.“
“Through this innovative partnership, Colorado Housing and Finance Authority and Esusu can transform the lives of Coloradans by creating pathways for economic participation and wealth creation,” said Samir Goel and Wemimo Abbey, cofounders and co-CEOs of Esusu. “We are thrilled to level the playing field for many Coloradans unable to achieve their full economic potential because of their financial identity.”
