chfa donates $175,000 to organizations addressing food insecurity across colorado
(DENVER) – Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) announced today that it will donate $175,000 to 36 organizations working to address hunger and food insecurity in Colorado. Data published by Hunger Free Colorado states that more than 1 in 10 Coloradans lacks reliable access to nutritious food, and that 17 percent of Colorado households with children struggle to afford enough food. Current economic challenges have exacerbated demand, placing added financial strain on food banks and pantries during their busiest time of year.
“Everything CHFA does is guided by its vision that everyone in Colorado will have the opportunity for housing stability and economic prosperity,” said Thomas Bryan, executive director and CEO of CHFA. “This vision cannot be realized if Coloradans are struggling to put food on their tables. We are proud to play a part in supporting organizations throughout the state working to meet this fundamental need.”
One organization receiving a CHFA donation is Food Bank of the Rockies, whose service area covers 150,000 square miles in coordination with more than 700 Hunger Relief Partners across Colorado and Wyoming. This represents the largest food bank distribution area in the contiguous United States. In its Fiscal Year 2025 Annual Report (PDF), Food Bank of the Rockies stated that its numbers reflected the highest need for food assistance in over a decade.
“As more and more neighbors turn to us for support, we are deeply grateful to Colorado Housing and Finance Authority for its commitment to nourishing Coloradans experiencing food insecurity,” said Erin Pulling, chief executive officer of Food Bank of the Rockies. “This generous contribution will help us respond to growing needs and provide even more nutritious meals to our neighbors in need.”
CHFA’s $30,000 donation to Food Bank of the Rockies was bolstered by the annual Like It Forward social media fundraising campaign. From December 1st through December 15th, CHFA shared a series of social media posts that included information about Food Bank of the Rockies, and stories of the impact they’ve made on communities across Colorado. For each like and share these posts received during the campaign, CHFA donated $5 to Food Bank of the Rockies. The likes and shares resulted in a total donation of $17,210, to which CHFA added $12,790 to bring the total to $30,000.
