This training defines micro-messaging and its subcomponents, inequities, advantages, and aggressions. Participants will explore real-life examples and learn about the subtle messages embedded below the surface of the delivered message. Participants will learn the connection between micro-messaging and unconscious bias.

We will consider the following questions.

• What is micro-messaging and how does it impact my communications with others?
• What messages are embedded within the communications we share with others?
• How can I control my micro-messaging to ensure that what I intend to communicate is communicated?
• How are micro-messages impacted by tonal quality, nonverbal signals, and physical movement?

Participants will learn about the subtle nuances of speech and nonverbal communications and their subsequent impact upon the recipient of the message. Participants will have a heightened awareness of their comments and the potential for support or harm.
