class description

Carey Mason’s enslaved ancestors struggled, strived, and sacrificed for the benefit of future generations without any way of knowing whether their efforts would be successful or not. In modern days, Carey was left to wonder how he and others in Black families can trace their family history, given the intentional steps taken during slavery to disassociate slaves from their past.

Personal family stories such as this characterize this interactive session, in which participants are invited to listen and understand the true impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Participants are encouraged to share their own stories as a means of allowing others to better understand, value, and appreciate their diversity.

Discussion points include the following questions:

  • What does diversity, equity, and inclusion look like “in real life”?
  • How does an environment of inclusion contribute to increased diversity and equity?

This class is free for members and residents at member properties.
