election results affecting affordable housing

The November 2022 election resulted in several new and expanded resources to support affordable housing in Colorado.

Statewide

Proposition 123 passed which creates a permanent and dedicated statewide fund for affordable housing. At a time when Colorado is facing a housing crisis, additional resources to support needs across the housing continuum in urban, rural, and mountain resort communities are critical.

Local Ballot Measures

The state was not alone in expanding its resources to address affordable housing. A total of 27 local affordable housing ballot measures were considered by voters, 21 of which passed. These included ballot measure 2A in Steamboat Springs which creates a new 9 percent tax on short-term rentals with revenue dedicated to increasing affordable and attainable housing. In addition, Chaffee County voters adopted local measure 1A, which expands the permissible use of the existing lodging tax revenue collected to support housing and childcare for local, seasonal, and other workforce.
