As more states legalize medical and recreational marijuana, property owners and residents grapple with marijuana-related questions.

This training, led by the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE) in collaboration with the Group to Alleviate Smoking (GASP) of Colorado, will cover the health effects of marijuana use, various types of marijuana, and the risks of exposure to secondhand marijuana smoke and vape. Discover how housing providers can integrate marijuana use into existing smoke-free policies and explore effective enforcement strategies.

Annie Murphy, an attorney with Dufford Waldeck Law in Grand Junction, will discuss complications faced by housing providers navigating the landscape of marijuana use in Colorado. Annie will discuss federal funding requirements regarding controlled substances and the legalities associated with a request for a reasonable accommodation from a resident for the use of medical marijuana, and how to process such a request.

This training presents a platform to discuss legal matters associated with marijuana use in housing settings while exploring compliant options to regulate usage within the framework of fair housing guidelines. Join us for invaluable insights and solutions in navigating this evolving landscape.
