chfa home

We are mission-based and believe in responsible, affordable homeownership. We want to help you feel confident when buying a home with our sponsored homebuyer education classes and down payment assistance programs.

who do we serve?

In 2017, we helped over 8,000 Coloradans become homeowners.

The average CHFA homeowner looks like:

  • Median income: $60,000

  • Median Credit Score: 679

  • Median Loan Amount: $238,000

89% of customers were first-time homebuyers.

homebuyer education: start here to make informed decisions

Take a homebuyer education class early in the homebuying process to help with everything from selecting a realtor and lender to understanding “the hidden costs of homeownership.” CHFA sponsors classes across the state, both in-person and online (in-person classes are free).

down payment assistance: get the help you need

CHFA offers down payment assistance options to homebuyers using one of our first mortgage loan programs to finance their home purchase. Choose the option that meets your needs: a grant for up to 4%, or a second mortgage for up to 5% of your first mortgage loan amount*.

where to start?

We encourage you to take a homebuyer education class first to make sure you are ready for homeownership. Then, contact a CHFA Lender to find out which loan program and down payment assistance program may meet your needs.
